To tackle the unprecedented challenges of future communications, the Institute of Communications Engineering (ICM) of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) aims to develop advanced key technologies for open, intelligent, and sustainable future communication networks. For the aspects of openness and intelligence, ICM focuses on key technologies, including Smart Networking, Communication Systems, and Electromagnetic Technology to facilitate future network operations.Firstly, Smart Networking is dedicated to developing high throughput, high reliability, high quality-of-service (QoS), and high-security services for massive smart terminals on a Cloud/Edge-based architecture. It provides heterogeneous resource management and channel coding under Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite networks.
Secondly, Communication Systems aim to develop artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled networks with advanced technologies, such as reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) communications. It also focuses on some prospective technologies, including error-control coding, information theory, and fault-tolerant quantum computing.
Finally, Electromagnetic Technology conducts research on antenna designs, electromagnetic theory, and Radio-Frequency (RF) circuit designs. Based on these key technologies, the ICM is expected to develop prospective technologies for Open, Intelligence, and Sustainability communication networks.
